The workshop reported here was designed to do just that. It was structured to have two parts. In the first, experts were invited to present their views and experience. In the second the participants were divided into small discussion groups and invited to look in detail at a particular aspect of the "Human-Technology System Interface. Humans in Complex Engineering Systems Sharing good practice workshop The Royal Academy of Engineering report "Risks Posed by Humans in the Control Loop provided the following conclusions. There are wide differences between different industrial sectors and professions in their approach to integrating the "human operative" into the control loop. While the differences are explicable in terms of history and tradition they do raise significant concerns given many of the similarities in terms of the problems being addressed and the control requirements of the various systems.
