A decision can then be made on the type of water treatment to be adopted, commensurated with the purpose for which the system is to be used, and its life expectancy. A discussion on the various types of water treatment that might be considered is beyond the terms of reference of this book. It is a diagnostic tool utilising the basic physical-chemistry of water supplies. Water treatment methods may change from time to time, but the basic physical-chemistry remains unchanged. This book has been written as a contribution to changing the attitude of mind when considering problems in industrial water systems. The need for such a change has been brought about by changes in prevailing economic conditions.
